Beyond the primary grades, the growing demands of a diverse and intensive curriculum present significant challenges for a great many students. In addition to specific content that might prove to be difficult, students must develop effective learning behaviors and routines for managing the tasks required of them. At Gideon Math & Reading Center, instruction for these students integrates the development of effective, independent learning strategies with support in the specific subject areas of school. Students are taught strategies for better organization, planning and time management, as well as methods for comprehending text, preparing for tests, researching a topic, writing, and more.

Some students in grades 4 and above may need specialized instruction in a specific content area, such as math, science, English, social studies, history, or a foreign language. Often, instruction that is individualized to meet the student’s particular needs and delivered in a one-to-one format makes a great difference in the student’s success in school.

As well as help with regular and AP Math, Science, English, and Social Sciences, Gideon provides instruction in Latin, French, Spanish, Russian, and Chinese.
